Here at Waihi Bush we get a lot of questions like: "How do I take this stuff?" or "How do I get my family to take it?" the answer to this question is easy- flax is a food, an a great one at that. We have put together some recipe books for you to browse through to get some ideas about how to get flax (both oil and fibre) into your daily diet.
One thing to remember - flax seed oil is NOT a cooking oil - high heat (frying or boiling) destroys the fragile Omega-3 essential fatty acids it contains.
So, how do I take the oil?
Some people take the oil directly from the spoon and chase it with juice or dried fruit. This is personal taste thing, our waihi bush organic farm flax seed oil does taste great (try other brands to taste the difference!) but we find most people prefer to mix it in with their food.
Some quick ideas are:
- Pour some in soup once you have served it or over steamed, roasted or stir fried vegetables
- Mix a batch of flax butter (see recipe) - a lovely spread PLUS, since flax seed oil lowers bad cholesterol you can enjoy butter again
- Add it to smoothies
- Use as a dressing on tuna, lettuce, egg or potato salad
- waihi bush organic farm flax fibre can be used in baking and is a great egg substitute.
Our recipes will allow you to make very wholesome food for you and your family that tastes great and is functional
